Account Information

When you create an account, we collect the following through our authentication provider (Clerk):

• Email address
• First and last name (provided via OAuth sign-in)
• Profile photo (if provided by your OAuth provider)

Chat and Conversation Data

When you use Opine's AI chat features, we collect:

• Chat messages — the text you type in conversations with AI personas
• Conversation history — the full thread of messages exchanged between you and AI personas
• Personal memories — details you share in conversations (such as your name, preferences, interests, and life events) that are stored to personalize future responses

Content and Interests

• Topics and interests you follow or interact with
• Content preferences and persona selections

Usage and Analytics Data

• Product usage events (screens viewed, features used, buttons tapped)
• Session recordings (anonymized interactions with the Service)
• Device information (device type, operating system, app version)
• IP address, browser type, and general location data

Purchase Data

• Subscription status and plan type
• Transaction identifiers (we do not store full payment card details)

How We Use AI Services

Opine is an AI-powered application. To generate responses in conversations, we send certain data to third-party AI providers. Below is exactly what data is shared with each provider and why.

Anthropic (Claude)

Data sent: Your chat messages, conversation history.

Purpose: Primary AI model used to generate conversational responses from personas.

OpenAI

Data sent: Conversation topics and content excerpts for relevance scoring.

Purpose: Used for content relevance scoring and embeddings to match you with relevant information.

Groq, Google Vertex AI, and AWS Bedrock

Data sent: The same data described above for Anthropic (chat messages, conversation history) may be sent to these providers when they serve as fallback AI providers.

Purpose: Fallback AI model providers used to ensure service reliability. If the primary provider is unavailable, your request is routed to one of these alternatives.

Third-Party Service Providers

In addition to the AI services listed above, we use the following third-party services to operate Opine:

Infrastructure

• Convex — Serverless backend and database. Stores your account data, conversations, and application data.
• Vercel — Web application hosting and serverless functions.

Authentication

• Clerk — Manages user authentication. Receives your email address, name, and profile photo from your OAuth provider (Google, Apple, etc.).

Analytics

• PostHog — Product analytics and session recording. Collects usage events, device information, and anonymized session replays to help us improve the Service.

Payments

• RevenueCat — Subscription and in-app purchase management. Processes your subscription status and transaction identifiers. Payment details are handled by Apple's App Store and Google Play — we never receive your full payment card information.

Data Protection by Third Parties

All third-party service providers listed above are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes described in this policy. We select providers that maintain industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security audits.

AI providers process your data solely to generate responses and do not use your conversations to train their models without separate consent. Each provider's handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy, linked above.

Use of Data

Opine uses the collected data for the following purposes:

• To generate AI-powered conversational responses
• To personalize your experience by remembering your preferences and interests
• To provide and maintain the Service
• To notify you about changes to our Service
• To provide customer support

Retention of Data

We retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. Conversation data and memories are retained for as long as your account is active. We will retain and use your data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

If you are located outside the United States and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the data, including Personal Data, to the United States and process it there. Our third-party providers may also process data in their respective locations.
